SMC International Training prides itself on its ability to adapt its systems to customer´s needs. For that reason, we want to present a customized project of ‘FMS-200’ Flexible Manufacturing System, in which operator safety was the main requirement.

Three stations have a methacrylate guard that encloses the entire surface of the station. This transparent guard has a door with a safety electromechanical switch. This is interlocked and thus stops access into the station whilst it is working. If the door opens, then an ‘emergency stop’ situation occurs and the system reverts to a ‘safe’ state.

The transparent guards have safety barriers and cameras that warn if any foreign object, (object or person), enters the restricted area. In those cases, the actuators stop having pressurized air, the system reverts to a ‘safe’ state, and the door is unlocked to allow the user access into the station to solve the problem.
